What is Conjunctivitis (Allergic) โ
A group of eye conditions causing a hypersensitive reaction ๐
Causing inflammation of the surface of the eye
Causes: allergies, such as to pollen, mould and pets; sensitivity to hot/dry weather, genetics or trauma ๐ถ
What are the Symptoms of Conjunctivitis โ
Eye itchiness
Discharge from eye (watery or thick) ๐ง
Swelling
Eye redness ๐ด
Vision blurring
How do you Diagnose Conjunctivitis โ
Patient symptoms and history assessment ๐
Eye examination ๐
Identification of which condition (e.g. seasonal allergy)
How do you Treat Conjunctivitis โ
Avoid possible allergens ๐ซ
Relieve symptoms by not rubbing the eye, cold compress, eye drops
Anti-histamine ointments ๐งด
Referral to specialist with severe, complex cases
Why should I Worry about Conjunctivitis โ
The cause of red eyes may be a more serious condition such as glaucoma
It can be distressing and reduce quality of life ๐ข
Some forms are more severe i.e. atopic keratoconjunctivitis
The conjunctivitis may not be allergic, but infective ๐ฆ
