What is Aphthous Ulcer ❓

 Round in shape, shallow ulcers inside the mouth 👄

 Causes: irritation or damage to the mouth (e.g. biting, badly fitted braces or fillings), deficiency/anaemia 🦷

 Risk factors: stress/anxiety, hormonal changes, certain foods/drinks (e.g. coffee, chocolate), genetics 🍫

 Sores inside mouth

 Pain

 Inflammation/redness 🔴

How do you Diagnose Aphthous Ulcer ❓

 General examination 🔍

 Patient symptoms & history

 If anaemia suspected, a blood test 💉

How do you Treat Aphthous Ulcer ❓

 Avoid triggering foods (e.g. salty, spicy or hot) 🔥

 Treatment may not be needed

 Painkilling/anti-inflammatory mouthwash 🧴

 Steroid treatments

Why should I Worry about Aphthous Ulcer ❓

 Usually heals with time and care ⏰

 Has a tendency to reoccur in some people

 The ulcer can become infected 🦠
