 Inflammation of the appendix

The appendix is a small tube connected to the large intestine 👝

 Causes: obstruction of the tube, infection, genetics 🤒

What are the Symptoms of Appendicitis ❓

 Abdominal pain on the right lower side

Pain often starts around the belly button 1st and then moves!

 Nausea/vomiting 🤮

 Elevated temperature 🥵

How do you Diagnose Appendicitis ❓

 Pain on pressing the abdomen on the right lower side 📋

Blood tests

 Exclusion of other causes (e.g. urinary tract infection)

 Scans (e.g. ultrasound) 👨‍⚕️

How do you Treat Appendicitis ❓

 Intravenous fluids & antibiotics 💊

 Hospital admission

Usually surgery (removal of the appendix) 🏥

Why should I Worry about Appendicitis ❓

 The appendix may burst, increasing risk of complications 🚑

This can lead to a severe infection or obstruction

 If pregnant, will carry a higher risk premature delivery/loss 🤰
