What is Hyperthyroidism (Over-active Thyroid) ❓
A condition where the thyroid gland is “over-active”
This increases production of the thyroid hormone; thyroxine 📈
Thyroxine is important for normal development & energy use (metabolism) 🔋
Causes: Grave’s disease, enlarged/abnormal thyroid gland, some iodine containing medications
Risk factors: being female, family history, smoking, low iodine intake, autoimmune disease e.g. type 1 diabetes 🚬

Restlessness/irritability/anxiety
Losing weight and increased appetite 🍔
Sweating/thirst
Diarrhoea

May have swollen thyroid/neck
