Staying Fit over the summer
All that good food made by your grandmother back home π . All those ice creams, shawarmas, burgers, pizzas πβ¦ The list goes on. All the saving up throughout the year to indulge during the summer holidays. It explains why most of us go back to work/school twice the size we left π.
What is the solution β
- Set yourself goals, start from the very first day your leave/holiday begins. Donβt be that person that always says βIβll do it tomorrowβ β. We know thatβs a lie that we all tell ourselves.
- Of course, you can indulge in all these delicious things, as we all deserve a break after all these lockdowns, and an extremely stressful year π’ .
- Some rules to try and stick to when setting yourself goals:
- The key is moderation β
- Eat when you are hungry π
- Stop when you are full β
- Switch white bread for brown, white rice for brown
- At restaurants, try choosing something that isnβt fried but rather grilled π
- Choose poultry (i.e., chicken) over red meat π
- BUT, remember you are on holiday so saying yes to an ice-creamor cake is ok as long as it is in moderation β
- Stick to any advice given by your healthcare provider π₯
- Another thing to bear in mind, is staying hydrated with water and vegetables π½! This will distinguish hunger from thirst.
- The most important thing is exercise π΄! Try and incorporate activities during the Summer that will need movement π€½!
- For example:
- Hiking
- Long walks πΆ
- Skiing π
- Ice skating
- Fishing
- If you are going to a warmer place:
- Swimming π
- Surfing π
- Running along the beach
- Playing Volleyball
- Horse riding π
- Donβt waste the summer sitting down β! If possible, try incorporate going to the gym into your spare time, and make this more enjoyable by asking a friend or family member to come along π«.
- During this time however, ensure you remain within COVID safety rules of the area. And for extra safety, make educated decisions to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones π.
- And last but not least, enjoy your summerβ
- Make memories, take pictures, and have fun
