What is Neutropenic Sepsis ❓
The life threatening reaction to a severe infection in the body 🦠
This type of sepsis is of people with a low level of white blood cells, cells that help fight infection
Causes: complication of anticancer and other immunosuppressive drugs e.g. chemotherapy 💉
What are the Symptoms of Neutropenic Sepsis ❓
High temperature 38°C+ (or extremely low) 🤒
Shivering chills 🥶
Behavioural change
Confusion/disorientation 💫
Mottled or pale skin
Dehydration 💧
Feeling unwell
Infection specific symptoms may include:
Productive cough
Painful urination 🚽
A cut/burn on the skin
How do you Diagnose Neutropenic Sepsis ❓
Medical assessment of symptoms and history 📋
Blood tests: blood count, infection
Possibly urine or mucus testing 🔬
How do you Treat Neutropenic Sepsis ❓
Urgent hospital admission & monitoring 🏥
Fluids into blood (IV)
Oxygen therapy if needed
Strong antibiotic treatment 💊
Why should I Worry about Neutropenic Sepsis ❓
Very serious and can cause organ failure, or even death 😫
Long lasting anxiety/fear after sepsis
Breaks in drug therapy (e.g. chemotherapy) 📆
