What is Bell’s Palsy

Facial muscle weakness and/or paralysis 👨

Reduction of movement in affected areas

Due to swelling/inflammation pressure on the facial nerve

Causes: unknown, but possibly due to viral infection 🤒


What are the Symptoms of Bell’s Palsy

Weakness/drooping of one side of the face

Hearing/speech/taste changes 👅

Watery or dry eye (if unable to close an eye)

Pain in the ear 👂

Referral to exclude alternative cause


How do you Treat Bell’s Palsy

Eye drops/ointment 💧

Steroid medication (e.g. prednisolone) 💊

Antiviral treatments
