What are chilblains❓
Small, itchy, painful lumps on the skin as an abnormal response to the cold ❄
Usually last for 2-3 weeks/ longer if exposure to cold is prolonged ❄
Increased risk if: poor circulation, smoking, diabetes, underweight ⬆
What are the symptoms of chilblains❓
Small, itchy, painful, red/purple swellings on the skin
Commonest locations: fingers, toes, and earlobes
Occur several hours after being exposed to cold ❄
How do you diagnose chilblains❓
Having classical symptoms
Examination of the affected areas
How do you treat chilblains❓
Usually resolve on their own after 2-3 weeks ⏱
Keep affected areas warm
Stop smoking
Why should I worry about chilblains❓
Infection of the skin (if scratched)
Scarring (if scratched)
