What is an ectopic pregnancy 

 A pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus (womb) 🤰

 Commonest location: fallopian tube 

 The pregnancy may end on its own with no problems  

 It can grow for a while and rupture the tube  


What are the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy 

 Lower tummy pain (can be severe) 😖

 Missed period 

 Vaginal bleeding (often different to menstrual bleed) 


How do you diagnose ectopic pregnancy 

 Having classical symptoms 

 Urine pregnancy test 

 Ultrasound scan through the vagina 


How do you treat ectopic pregnancy 

 Not ruptured: methotrexate (medicine) 💊

 Ruptured: surgery to remove ectopic and the damaged fallopian tube 


Why should I worry about ectopic pregnancy 

 Ruptured ectopic is life threatening 

 Recurrent ectopic pregnancies 🤰
