What are burns and scalds 

 A burn: injury caused by heat, chemicals, electricity or radiation 🔥

 A scald: a burn caused by contact with hot liquid or steam 

 Usually affects the skin but may also damage muscles, bones or other organs 


What are the symptoms of burns and scalds 

 Dependent on: 

 Type of burn 🔥

 Area affected 

 Damaged skin (red, painful, and sometimes itchy) 


How do you diagnose burns and scalds 

 Having classical symptoms 

 Physical examination 


How do you treat burns and scalds 

 First aid:  

 Cold compress/water for 20 minutes ❄ 

 Seek emergency help if: electrical burn, large/ deep burn, feeling unwell 🔥

 Wound cleaning/ dressing 

 Tetanus vaccine 💉


Why should I worry about burns and scalds 

 Infection 

 Dehydration (if severe)
